Mediating Effect of Stigma on the Relationship between Psychological Distress and Help-seeking Attitudes among University Students in South Korea
Kim Hee-Chul

Abstract
The current study examined the influence of psychological distress on help-seeking attitudes and the mediating effect of stigma (social and self) on the association between psychological distress and help-seeking attitudes among university students in South Korea. A total of 240 students at 4 universities in South Korea completed in-class surveys in Spring, 2016. Data was analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results indicated that psychological distress contributed significant variance to help-seeking attitudes; the relation was negative. The findings from 3-step multiple regression analysis(Baron & Kenny, 1986) revealed that social stigma and self-stigma fully mediate the relationship between psychological distress and help-seeking attitudes. Based on the results, implications, limitations, and future studies were discussed.
